Media Storm Reflects Widespread Love for Uncle ChiChi

One of Halo’s special friends, Uncle ChiChi, a miniature poodle who was likely the world’s oldest dog (his owners estimated his age to be between 24-26), passed away on January 17.

In 2010, ChiChi stole hearts across the globe in a Good Morning America appearance where his owners revealed that the little poodle’s secret to longevity was his favorite food, Halo’s Spot’s Stew.

After The New York Times first shared news of ChiChi’s passing with its 1.1 million daily readers, others like the Associated Press, The Gothamist, and many more also paid tribute to the poodle.

Many stories mentioned the finicky ChiChi’s preference for Spot’s Stew and a  Freekibble.com donation of Halo made in his honor.

An estimated 16.5 million people read about Uncle ChiChi’s passing when nearly 170 outlets ran the Associated Press article. Leading outlets including The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, The Washington Post, San Francisco Examiner, The Miami Heral, ABC News, the Boston Globe, and many others covered the story.

A video of ChiChi enjoying Halo made the rounds as well, appearing in The Huffington Post, The Gothamist and AOL Pawnation, among others, with more than 20,000 views in just a few days.

We are all fortunate to have known this special little dog, and we’re thankful to the media for sharing his remarkable story and honoring his memory. Rest in Peace, Uncle ChiChi.

Halo Leads Celebration of National Holistic Pet Day

August 30 is National Holistic Pet Day and Halo led the pack in media coverage across the globe.

To mark the occasion, Halo surveyed 800 pet parents about their holistic lifestyles. The survey results, along with Dr. Donna Spector’s tips for holistic living, were a hit, landing Halo coverage in many leading pet media outlets, including Catster (reaching Dogster Media's 7 million monthly viewers) and Dogtime (40 million monthly visitors).

The media – and consumer – enthusiasm around National Holistic Pet Day is great news for pet parents who want to make healthy choices for their pets.

According to Halo’s survey, the top pet parent behaviors for promoting holistic well being were regular exercise (70% of respondents) and feeding their pets all-natural food (75% of respondents). Interestingly, 70% of respondents say they avoid ingredients prohibited for humans (such as chicken meal or other rendered animal parts) and 48% use natural supplements for skin, coat or digestive care. A large number (59%) of participants said they choose green/non toxic household products and 54% play mind-stimulating activities and games with their pets.

While only 6% of respondents had heard of National Holistic Pet Day, many of those surveyed planned to take this opportunity to make positive lifestyle changes. View survey results here.
